OPENING OF THE
BOATING SEASON 2027
One Incredible South African Celebration.
And then there are days you remember.
On Heritage Day 2027, the Vaal River comes alive once again for one of the biggest celebrations on the water — the Official Opening of the Boating Season on the Vaal River.
Hundreds of boats. Thousands of South African flags. Families, friends, river communities and visitors gathering from up and down the Vaal for one spectacular celebration of the river we call home.
Proudly South African in 2027!
From cruisers, speedboats and pontoons to jet skis and family boats, the Vaal will become a moving celebration as the fleet comes together for the spectacular Opening of the Boating Season Flotilla.

Boating & Community
Expect South African colours everywhere. Boats decorated for Heritage Day. Music carrying across the water. Braais burning along the riverbanks. Participating venues buzzing with entertainment. Families waving from the shore. And that unmistakable Vaal River gees as hundreds of boats travel together.
But this event has become about much more than boats. It's about our river, the restaurants, resorts, hotels, clubs, boat operators and businesses that call the Vaal home.
It's about the people who live here, work here, boat here and have fought to protect this incredible stretch of water. Above all, it's about bringing people together.
Different cultures.
One River. One South Africa.
The past few years have shown just how powerful that idea can be. Hundreds of vessels have taken to the water, spectators have lined the banks, South African flags have flown from boats of every size, and the Vaal River community has come together to celebrate the beginning of summer.
In 2027, We Go Bigger!
Bring your boat. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Fly the flag. Celebrate your heritage. Be part of something unforgettable on the Vaal River.
